Closed beta

Rucksack is in closed beta

It works, and it is early. Here is everything worth knowing before you join the waitlist.

Where things stand

Right now Rucksack has one user: its founder. Every problem he runs into is reported from inside the app and worked through, one report at a time. The next step is a small group of invited testers.

Who the beta is for

  • You meet a lot of people, and what they tell you matters for your work.
  • You have tried keeping notes about people — in a notes app, a spreadsheet, Notion — and it never stuck.
  • You are willing to use an early product for a few weeks and say what breaks.
  • You are fine with an English interface. You can speak German or English.

What works today

Works today

  • Speak or type a note, up to five minutes
  • German and English, detected automatically
  • Recording without signal — it uploads later
  • People, places and organisations, with the facts about them
  • A question when a name is ambiguous
  • The recording behind every fact
  • Search across people, notes and facts
  • Installs to your iPhone home screen from the browser

Not yet

  • Reminders
  • Relationships between people
  • Contact import or integrations
  • Sharing or teams
  • Native apps
  • Paid plans — there is nothing to pay

How each part works

What it costs

Nothing during the beta. There is no payment of any kind, and no way to pay yet.

After the beta the plan is simple: Rucksack stays free to use, and you pay a fee for what you use. The details — what counts as usage, and what it costs — are not set. When they are, they will be published here.

How invitations work

Join the waitlist with your email address. Invitations go out in small groups, so every tester can be looked after properly. We can’t promise a date.

What to expect as a tester

  • Things will break. Reporting a problem takes a few seconds from inside the app.
  • Features change quickly — sometimes because of what you reported.
  • It is an early product. Don’t make it the only place you keep something important.
